Unveiling of the mural “The Story Tellers” - opening

Robbie and Max McClintock have the honor and pleasure of inviting you to the unveiling of their mural, “The Story Tellers” by Maestro Carlos Cabán.

Carlos Cabán, a resident in San Miguel for more than 22 years, has had a distinguished career as a book and courtroom illustrator, painter, teacher at the Instituto Allende, and now muralist. Instead of working in an art agency, Cabán, a graduate of Pratt Institute, chose to join the Peace Corps and help establish an art school for native Wayuú children in the desert peninsula of La Guajira in Colombia SA.

This experience of sharing life with South American native people changed his life, spirituality, and his art forever. This brought him to Mexico to live and paint his experiences with the Huichol peoples who still use peyote in their ceremonies.

Since then, his paintings, drawings and illustrations have focused on indigenous themes and spiritually and what can be called his own “Visionary Art”.

For the last two years Cabán has been working on the mural “The Story Tellers” commissioned by Robbie and Max McClintock. Robbie is a writer and Emeritus Professor in the Historical and Philosophical Foundations of Education, and has taught at Teachers College, Columbia University. Max is a teacher and historian.

“The Story Tellers” is the result of a collaboration between the McClintocks and Cabán portraying the Greek creation myths and those of Mesoamerica in a way that they could be read visually.

Now after almost two years of research, many sketches and many hours of painting, the mural finally comes to an end… and thus is born.
