St. Joseph's Day

St. Joseph is considered the most powerful saint and the only one allotted two feast days. Other saints, like St. Theresa of Calcutta worshipped Jesus, or St. Jude the apostle, was a buddy. Joseph is only step-father. Until recently every boy in town had the first name Jose. Most use their middle name, or the nickname, Pepe, which is an abbreviation for the two words in Spanish for adoptive father.

Expect fireworks, processions, races and fiestas particularly centered around the Oratorio (the most active church in town). Other hot spots are areas and chapels named for St. Joseph in the Balcones, colonia Obraje and the area behind the public hospital named St. Jose de la Armistad.

And be sure to provide all the Josephs in your life their favorite foods on his feast day. I prefer champagne and chocolate chip cookies!
