Austin Summer Photography Workshop

Stephen Billick, co-lecturer at the Austin School of Photography, will be hosting a San Miguel version of the school's highly-lauded Photo 1 curriculum beginning Tues. August 15th.

ASOP's introductory course is designed to give the student a fluent control of manual photography via an understanding of light, space & time. In other words, instead of teaching specific types of photography (food, portrait, landscape, architecture, etc.) we will focus on the core language of the medium, & the various ways in which that language can be used create persuasive images.

We will thoroughly explore the various exposure strategies you have with light, the ways in which you can manipulate layers of space with your lens, & how to deal with action & movement in the frame with your shutter. The course will also clarify & simplify all of the technical aspects of your equipment, as well as delve into composition & art history.

Who should take this:
Practically everyone. This class is designed for people with no previous knowledge of photography, so beginners should feel entirely welcome. However, students with more advanced needs are also encouraged to take the course, as it will expand to include advanced methods.

Upon completion:
Students should expect to possess a solid understanding of the equipment & terminology involved in photography, as well as how to employ sophisticated technical & compositional strategies as a fluent manual photographer.

Details:
The course will meet each Tuesday for two hours beginning at 1:00pm, for six weeks. The cost of the 12 hour course is $295. Please email Stephen Billick (stephen@ausop.org) with any questions. Or call 415-152-5370.
