Peace Day and Time Capsule

Every year on September 21st, the United Nations calls on the peoples of the world to remember their common humanity, join together to celebrate the International Day of Peace and build a peaceful future for earth and all its inhabitants.

For the past three years Camino de la Paz and its partners have celebrated this day with various activities to let people know that peace is really possible and that it begins with each one of us.
This year the celebration will be different from previous year. By erecting a Peace Pole, San Miguel de Allende joined 200,000 cities in 194 countries around the world in expressing its aspiration for peace. The four-sided obelisk was inaugurated on August 2nd and displays the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in six languages including English, Spanish, Otomi, Nahuatl, Braille and Mexican Sign Language.

On this special occasion Camino de la Paz has joined the project of the Rotary Club San Miguel de Allende and the Rotary Club Half Day of San Miguel de Allende. On Peace Day we will seal a "Time Capsule" in a special place within the park. The time capsule will contain messages of peace to be opened by the citizens of San Miguel in the year 2067.

Children in many schools will be offered a chance to write their messages answering these two questions:
What does peace mean to you?

How do you see peace in your life and in the world in 50 years?

We would like to invite as many people as possible to participate in this link to our future of peace. You can submit any message, drawing, poem or whatever expresses your hope for peace. The format should be no larger than half a page.

Of course we will not be able to fit all of them in the capsules, but we will take pictures of the most expressive, original and significant ones and place them in the capsule. We will display them all during the ceremony.

You are invited to drop your peace message at Sindicato, Recreo #4 in Centro or at Radio San Miguel, Sollano #4, Centro, until September 18.

The event will also welcome impromptu expressions of peace with music, poems or however people want to express. Artists will also present their visions of peace and their work will be on sale during the event. Proceeds will be used in peace projects.

The Peace Day event will start at 4pm on Thursday September 21 at the Peace Pole in Parque Juarez. You are all invited to participate with your message and also with your presence on the day of the event.

En el año 2001, La Organización de las Naciones Unidas declaró el 21 de septiembre como el día Internacional de la Paz. Esta es una fecha que se celebra en todo el mundo y se dedica a los ideales de la paz tanto entre los individuos, culturas, naciones y el interior del ser humano.

Por cuarto años consecutivos  Camino de la Paz  y sus socios han celebrado este día con diversas actividades para que la gente sepa que la paz es realmente posible y que comienza con cada uno de nosotros.
Este año la celebración será diferente. Al construir un Monumento de Paz, San Miguel de Allende se unió a 200.000 ciudades en 194 países de todo el mundo para expresar su aspiración a la paz. El obelisco de paz fue inaugurado el 2 de agosto y muestra el mensaje "Que La Paz Prevalezca en la Tierra" en seis idiomas, incluyendo inglés, español, otomí, náhuatl, braille y lengua de señas mexicana.

En esta especial ocasión Camino de la Paz ha sumado al proyecto del Club Rotario San Miguel de Allende y Club Rotario Medio Día de San Miguel de Allende. En el Día de la Paz Paz introduciremos una "Cápsula de Tiempo" en un lugar especial dentro del parque. La cápsula del tiempo contendrá mensajes de paz que serán abiertos por los ciudadanos de San Miguel en el año 2067.
A los niños de muchas escuelas se les ofrecerá la oportunidad de escribir su mensaje respondiendo a estas dos preguntas:
¿Que significa la paz para ti ?
¿Como ves la paz en tu vida y en el mundo en 50 años?
Nos gustaría invitar a tantas personas como sea posible a participar en este enlace a nuestro futuro de paz. Usted está invitado a enviar cualquier mensaje, dibujo, poema o la expresión de su esperanza de paz. El formato no debe ser mayor de media página.

Por supuesto, no podremos meterlas todas en las cápsulas, pero tomaremos fotografías de las más expresivas, originales y significativas y las colocaremos en los tubos sellados. Los mostraremos todos durante la ceremonia del día de la paz.
Usted está invitado a dejar su mensaje de paz en Sindicato, Recreo # 4 en Centro o en Radio San Miguel, Sollano # 4, Centro hasta el 18 de septiembre.

El evento también dará la bienvenida a expresiones de paz con música, poemas o cualquier otra forma que la gente quiera expresar. Los artistas también presentarán su visión de la paz y su trabajo estará a la venta durante el evento. Los ingresos se utilizarán en proyectos de paz.

El evento del Día de la Paz comenzará el jueves 21 de septiembre a las 4pm en el Monumento de Paz en el Parque Juárez. Están todas y todos invitados a participar con su mensaje y también con su presencia el día del evento.
