Prepare Local Scholars to be Global Citizens, Rotary - talk

Why are international companies flocking to San Miguel? Could it be our great location with easy access to Central and South America as well as to the US and Canada? No doubt. Could it be low wages? No doubt. But, most importantly, these international giants see a labor force that is superior to others in the world, according to local industry officials.

Of course, raw talent is one thing, but most companies need educated employees, 80-percent of whom are engineers. Enter Jovenes Adelante, a nonprofit that grants scholarships to local Mexican honors students who otherwise could not afford to attend university and break the cycle of historic economic disparity.

Jovenes Adelante’s slogan is Educating the Brightest to Light Up the World, and it’s living its slogan through a number of its students who are earning international internships. Come to Rotary Tuesday, September, 12, at 12:30 p.m., when JA President Robin Loving shares the amazing stories of JA students who have earned internships in Asia, Europe, the US and Cuba. The meeting will be free and in English.

Loving is a nonprofit professional who cofounded the Nonprofit Resource Network to connect and inform nonprofits, benefactors, consultants and volunteers.

Rotary is where neighbors, friends and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders and take action to create lasting change. For more information, contact President Fred Collins at presidentmidday@berkleyline.com and see
