Gustavo Pérez, Galería Atotonilco Open House

By Susan Page

If Mexico designated “National Living Treasures,” as Japan does, Gustavo Pérez would surely be at the top of the list. He stands alone as the only Mexican ceramic artist who is internationally celebrated and admired. His work is exhibited in fine galleries in Tokyo, Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City (including the Franz Mayer, the Museum of Modern Art, and Bellas Artes), and now, San Miguel de Allende.

We have an extraordinary opportunity, right here in San Miguel, to view a rich and varied selection of his highly sought-after ceramic works. Gallery Open House will present over fifty vessels and sculptures by Pérez, one of the largest collections of his work that has ever been exhibited for sale, and includes a large body of his recent works. Except for this Open House, the gallery is open by appointment.

Quality Folk Art
In addition to the works by Gustavo Pérez, Galeria Atotonilco exhibits a wide variety of fine quality folk art from all over Mexico, including copper, baskets, ceramics, textiles, wood carvings, paper mache, Huichol yarn and beaded works, and much more. The few items from outside of Mexico include finely woven and eye dazzling Colombian baskets, plus Guatemalan weavings. The gallery is located five miles north of town, a short taxi ride, in a lush country property and a much published, architecturally interesting building. Everyone is invited to this Open House. Refreshments will be served. Saturday and Sunday, January 27 and 28, noon to 5 PM both days. For directions to the gallery, visit www.galeriaatotonilco.com.
