Pitayo Music Sessions San Miguel is pleased to present its third edition with a Special Concert in benefit of the Literary Sala San Miguel, which will present some of the most beloved musicians of San Miguel, Iraida Noriega and Doug Robinson accompanied by Víctor Monterrubio and Rubén Olvera, this next Saturday May 27 at 6:30 pm in Bellas Artes.

Doug Robinson and Iraida Noriega meet in San Miguel de Allende and from the beginning there is an indisputable musical understanding. Perhaps because they bring both very broad musical history which includes jazz and improvisation, but also the exploration and inclusion of other genres. For two years, they have had a successful career in various formats: duet, trio, and orchestra with repertoire of jazz, fusion, and world music. Currently they are already planning an album together that will include some of the songs that have already been played in concert plus some original compositions.

DOUG ROBINSON. Born in San Diego, California. Listening to all kinds of music from his father's huge collection: from Ahmad Jamal to the Beatles, Doug absorbed everything. When he began studying piano, his teachers could not believe that he was improvising and composing with sophisticated harmonies. He also learned the drums, bass and guitar in a self-taught way. Doug has been part of several renowned jazz ensembles: with bassist Nathan East, saxophonist Hollis Gentry III, and other local musicians prior to studying bebop with trombone legend Frank Rehak (Miles Davis, John Coltrane). Over the past twenty years, Doug has been refining his unique style of composition, combining mainstream, fusion, and world music, with interesting yet accessible melodies. His album "Plays Well with Others" features renowned guitarist Mike Stern and bassist John Patitucci, and his subsequent albums "Sit Jazz Down" and "Jazziz" include drummer Peter Erskine, saxophonist Bob Sheppard and bassist Dave Carpenter. Currently lives in San Miguel de Allende where he has a very active musical life producing, composing and playing.

IRAIDA NORIEGA. Born on August 16, 1971 in Mexico City. She has sung in various forums such as Palacio de Bellas Artes, Teatro Metropolitan, Sala Nezahualcóyotl, CENART, Lunario, and countless festivals and clubs in the country and around the world. Since May 2012 se has been conducting a jazz radio show called the Butterfly Effect, by Horizonte radio. She has 14 albums on the market including Efecto Mariposa, Viaje de Mar, and Caracolito, which was selected as one of the 10 best jazz records in Latin America in 2012. She is part of the Mexican jazz ensemble of the extraordinary pianist and composer Abraham Barrera , with whom this year will release the album titled “Dream Sextet”; as well as the album "As one" with one of the most virtuous pianists of the spontaneous composition movement, the wonderful Ken Bichel. In addition to continuing to work on her music, she teaches classes and workshops.

Concierto a beneficio de la Sala Literaria

Pitayo Music Sessions San Miguel se complace en presentar su tercera edición con un Concierto Especial a beneficio de la Sala Literaria, en el cual se presentarán algunos de los músicos más entrañables de San Miguel, Iraida Noriega y Doug Robinson acompañados por Víctor Monterrubio y Rubén Olvera, este próximo sábado 27 de mayo a las 6:30 pm en el Centro Cultural “El Nigromante”

Doug Robinson e Iraida Noriega se conocen en San Miguel de Allende y desde el principio hay un entendimiento musical indiscutible. Quizás porque traen ambos historia musical muy amplia que incluye el jazz y la improvisación, pero también la exploración y la inclusión de otros géneros. Desde hace dos años, han tenido una exitosa carrera de conciertos en diversos formatos: dúo, trío, y orquesta con repertorio del jazz, la fusión, y el world music. Actualmente están ya en la planeación de un disco en conjunto que incluirá algunos de los temas que ya han sonado en concierto más algunas composiciones originales.

DOUG ROBINSON. Nacido en San Diego, California, Doug escuchaba todo tipo de música de la enorme colección de su padre: desde Ahmad Jamal, hasta los Beatles, Doug absorbió todo. Cuando comenzó estudiando piano, sus maestros no podían creer que estaba improvisando y componiendo con armonías sofisticadas; así mismo aprendió de manera autodidacta la batería, el bajo y la guitarra. Doug ha formó parte de varios renombrados ensambles de jazz: con el bajista Nathan East, el saxofonista Hollis Gentry III, y otros músicos locales previo a estudiar bebop con la leyenda del trombón Frank Rehak (Miles Davis, John Coltrane) Durante los últimos veinte años, Doug ha estado refinando su estilo único de composición, combinando mainstream, fusión, y world music, con melodías interesantes pero accesibles. Su álbum “Plays Well with Others” tiene como solista al guitarrista reconocido Mike Stern y al bajista John Patitucci, y en sus discos posteriores como “Sit Jazz Down” y “Jazziz” tienen como invitados especiales al baterista Peter Erskine, al saxofonista Bob Sheppard y al bajista Dave Carpenter. Actualmente vive en San Miguel de Allende en donde tiene una vida musical muy activa produciendo, componiendo y tocando.

IRAIDA NORIEGA. Nacida un 16 de agosto de 1971 en la Ciudad de México. Ha cantado en diversos foros como Bellas Artes, Teatro Metropolitan, Sala Nezahualcóyotl, Centro Nacional de las Artes, Lunario, e infinidad de festivales y clubs en el país y alrededor del mundo. Desde mayo del 2012 conduce un programa de jazz y sus alrededores llamado Efecto Mariposa, por Horizonte radio. Cuenta con 14 discos en el mercado que incluyen Efecto Mariposa, Viaje de Mar, y Caracolito el cual fue seleccionado como uno de los 10 mejores discos de jazz en Latinoamérica en 2012. Forma parte del ensamble de jazz mexicanista del extraordinario pianista y compositor Abraham Barrera, con quien este año lanzará el disco titulado Dream Sextet. Así como el disco muy “As one” con uno de los pianistas más virtuosos del movimiento de la composición espontánea, el maravilloso Ken Bichel. Además de seguir trabajando en su música, imparte clases y talleres.
