Music: A Window to the Divine, UU Service - spirit

At this Sunday’s Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Miguel Service, four acclaimed San Miguel musicians join forces to offer memorable performances of personal favorites – from Bach and Beethoven to New Age and American Spirituals. Countertenor Don Krim, pianist Ken Bichel, tubist Michael Moore, and pianist Paula Peace focus on music’s power to connect us to the beauty and mystery of the divine.

Countertenor Don Krim’s unique and hauntingly expressive voice switches between the classical and popular repertoire. An actor by training, Don’s vocal performances are all too rare in San Miguel. He has performed solo concerts and with orchestras internationally in the U.S., Germany, Austria, Spain, Finland, Turkey and Mexico.

Pianist Ken Bichel is an Emmy-award winning composer, producer, and performer for television and numerous Hollywood feature films. His eclectic approach to the piano is an amalgam of multi-national styles and influences. As a first-call multi-keyboardist in New York City, he was the recipient of the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences Most Valuable Player Award for seven consecutive years, after which he became the first Virtuoso Award winner.

Michael Moore joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as Principal Tuba in 1968 at age 18, the youngest tubist among any major US orchestra. Now after 49 seasons in the orchestra, he is known as the “dean” of American symphonic tubists and can be heard on more than 85 recordings with the ASO.

Nationally recognized as a pioneer among chamber musicians, Paula Peace was the pianist and founding Artistic Director of the Atlanta Chamber Players for almost 40 seasons before retiring to San Miguel in 2014. With the ACP she produced and performed in more than 250 cities in the US and Europe, premiered 100+ works for chamber ensemble, and was featured in dozens of national radio broadcasts.
