13. Time to reflect

Imagine, you are reading this article because at some point someone somewhere gave you access to books. Come to Rotary Tuesday, November 21, at 12:30 p.m. at Hotel Mision, Salida a Queretaro 1, when former president Ivar Schacke promotes Rotary’s program to develop a mobile library to visit some of the 500-plus communities in the San Miguel area to offer the benefits of reading to local youth. The presentation will be free and in English.

In Schacke’s words, ”The main objectives are to promote reading skills and foster a culture of reading among 4 – 11-year-olds as background for later employment. These youngsters live in remote, vulnerable communities throughout the municipality of San Miguel de Allende and its surrounding rural communities that have little to no access to reading materials and other engaging activities related to education and culture.

The project will be developed in a cooperation between CASA and our Rotary Club. The project is expected to reach 1.200 children and is planned to run for 10 years.”
Rotary is where neighbors, friends and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders and take action to create lasting change. For more information, contact presidentmidday@berkleyline.com and see RotaryMiddaySMA.org.
