Jesse Harris & Friends

In 1998, Jesse Harris was the lead singer-songwriter for a band called The Ferdinandos. That year, he met 19-year-old Norah Jones, who recorded five of Harris’s songs, including the Grammy-winning “Don’t Know Why,” for her 27-million-selling debut album Come Away With Me.

Due to Harris’s friendship with San Miguel musical luminary Doug Robinson (whose jazz compositions have been described as “most prepossessing!” by Stereo Review, and Mexico City-based Todd Clouser (whom National Public Radio calls “a fascinating musician”), Harris has performed twice before in San Miguel. The last time was in November 2018, in concert with Clouser and Robinson.

Now he’s back. The Harris-Clouser-Robinson reunion concert will have two performances only, both on Friday, October 29 — at 3pm and 7pm — at El Sindicato cultural center at Recreo #4. El Sindicato has a large stage, a new Yamaha grand piano, high ceilings and good ventilation, and sixty spaced-apart seats — certified a Covid-safe venue by the health authorities.

All seats are $400 pesos, and may be purchased online only, here. Remaining seats, if any, will be sold at the door. There are no reserved seats, so early arrival is recommended. Face masks are required.

Harris will perform songs from his 2021 album, Sopresa, his collaboration with Brazilian legend Vinicius Cantuária. (Stephen Graham, founding editor of Jazzwise magazine, raves that the album “takes your breath away.”) Harris’s solo set will also include selections from his 2020 album Everlasting Day.

Todd Clouser will debut songs from a forthcoming Jesse Harris-produced record called Time Is a Healer. Clouser says, “It will be me on acoustic guitar, singing/talking life of a Minnesotan in Mexico, sobriety, and magic love with a guy I met in a tiny pueblo on the Costa Grande.” Doug Robinson will perform original compositions on grand piano. And for the finale, you can depend on the three friends jamming together.
