Escape from the City:

Photo & Writing Excursion to Mineral de Pozos
Bring your camera and your pen! Internationally acclaimed, globe-trotting documentary photographer and author, Alison Wright, will lead the way for a day of photographing the legendary ruins and remains, and contemporary charm of Mineral de Pozos.

A mere one-hour drive from San Miguel de Allende, Pozos was born in 1576 as a silver mining town that grew to a population of 70,000, peaking from the 1880s until 1910, when industry was interrupted by the Mexican Revolution and later by massive floods and a steep decline in the value of silver. In the 1950s, the near ghost town, pueblo fantasma in Spanish, had shrunk to 200 residents. For the last decade or more, Pozos has attracted a new wave of interest and residents. Valued for the spectacular beauty and light of the high desert, artists, photographers and others are finding their way to Pozos.
From VisitMexico.com: In the middle of the semi-desert, with a landscape covered with mesquite trees, stands Pozos. With a mining history that has become the emblem of this cozy town, everyone who visits the ruins is filled with amazement. It is a town that has revived like the legendary bird...
