Artistic Tools and Techniques

Join local inspiring visual artist and illustrator, Alejandro Anaya, for a one day tools and techniques workshop, where you'll learn more about many of the locally available tools and supplies. Alejandro has a curiosity to explore tools not art supplies available to us in SMA, and applies them in radically simple yet profound techniques, creating a mixed media look and feel to his daily art practice. Alejandro will be sharing these techniques with other passionate artists, so we invite you to join us for this half day workshop of demonstration, experimentation, as well as socializing.

We'll provide a Starter Kit containing many of the new tools you'll be experimenting with during the workshop, but please bring your sketchbook supplies so you can dabble in merging these new effects with your tried and true techniques. If you don't have a sketchbook nor supplies, no worries, because the Starter Kit will give you an opportunity to try the tools Alejandro will be demonstrating. Bring your curiosity, your sense of creativity, your art bag and prepare to explore some new techniques!

THE PROMISE: Participants will experiment with different creative art materials and techniques in a safe and educational environment that will encourage artistic works, even if there is no previous experience. This will be a time to try new tools and play with their affects. Great for experienced sketchers, and those who are curious to start making art.

The Experience:

-Participants will experiment with provided tools and materials, and with suggestions on how to get the best from your art tools.

-There will be a demonstration of each artistic tool and material, with time to combine these tools to enhance your own style.

-The workshop is hands on, so every participant will experiment and find their own creative process and style.

-Finally, creatives will discover which materials and techniques are more suited for them, so they follow their artistic intuition and style, thereby enhancing their current styles, or prompting beginners to practice.

Starter Kit Included:

Workshop participation includes an arsenal of tools that will be demonstrated, as well as a list of local supplies that can be purchased. Tool kit to include a variety of graphite pencils and sticks, water brush, container of ink and a sketchbook. There will also be a variety of fountain pens, acrylic markers for you to experiment with, as well as a resource list for purchasing. If you have an arsenal of sketching supplies, please bring to the workshop, but no worries if you don't this is a great place to get started.
