Art And Music Improvisation - opening

Improvisation: “to make up, compose or perform without preparation.” This kind of art is common among performers such as musicians and actors, and is common for painters, as well. The difference is that we normally see only the painter´s finished product. On Sunday, September 1, from 12 noon until 3pm, Galeria Izamal will feature an improvised session with two artists one a painter, the other a musician. The art and music loving public is invited.

Javier Garcia will begin with a blank canvas and Gabriel Hernandez will simultaneously improvise on keyboard, both doing what they do best: improvising.

Javier is a native Sanmiguelense, well known for his loose, colorful, and vigorous paintings of San Miguel and of Brazil, which he knows well. He is a longtime member of the Izamal cooperative.
Cuban born and trained Gabriel Hernandez has been based in San Miguel for many years. He is well known to San Miguel jazz lovers. In addition, he travels internationally, touring
with his group to play all over the world. He has many listings on social media.

This special demonstration may be one of the few opportunities to watch a professional painter at work, as though he were in his studio.

Of course, to improvise well, the artist must have mastered his or her medium, in this case, paint and brush, and keyboard. Both these artists easily qualify.

Galeria Izamal will celebrate its twenty- seventh anniversary in November. Juan Ezcurdia, Javier Garcia, Cissy Smith Marks, Bill Morrow, Al Skaar, Henry Vermillion, and Britt Zaist are painter-members, and Maria Bracho and Wolfgang Lichter are Izamal´s jewelers.
