Four Canadian Authors - books

San Miguel de Allende has always had a knack for squeezing creative juices from those who come to visit or to stay a while. It means there is a potent brew of talent here, in the fields of visual art, sculpture, photography, music, fabric art,….and writing. Everyone seems to draw on everyone else’s talents for inspiration and support.

Four Canadian women have been motivated to write in Mexico and are now published authors. Margaret Paul of Victoria BC, has followed her first book, an anthology of conversations with artists, with a young adult novel. Agnes Olive, who hails from Toronto and Tofino, has written two memoirs. Ellen Akerman, from the London Ontario area, has written both a biography and a fast paced science fiction novel soon to be released. Finally, Janet Dunnett of Qualicum Beach BC has crafted a memoir of family caregiving that she says resonates in some way with just about everyone she meets. These Canadians, supported as writers in the crucible of San Miguel, now want to pay it forward. They are issuing an open invitation to join them for a free event on March 1st from 3pm to 5pm in the Biblioteca Publica’s stunning Sala Quetzal.

“We want to reach out to those who might be wishing they could get started on writing but just don’t know where to begin,” says Agnes. “We’ve learned so much on our writer’s road that we would love to share,” echoes Margaret. “You too can be a writer!” adds Ellen. “In fact that’s our theme in this afternoon of tales and tips.” CheriRae Wright, a long time resident and aspiring writer, will introduce the event and the authors.

Janet thinks that even those with no plans to try their hand at writing will enjoy this mix of story telling and readings, mingling over refreshments, and a chance to have books signed. “We are very pleased to have the support of the Canadian government,” she says. “Canada strongly supports culture in all its forms, and reaching across borders to share all our artistic inspiration.”

To recap. The event takes place on Friday, March 1st from 3pm to 5pm in the Sala Quetzal in the Biblioteca Publica. Everyone is welcome, and there is no admission charge.
