Neal Smith-Willow, open studio
Neal Smith Willow has had a studio in San Miguel for the last since 2008. He was in San Miguel previously while attending the Instituto Allende on a scholarship He received a Masters in Fine Arts in 1972 from the University of Guanajuato. He studied with James Pinto and had a nodding acquaintance with Sterling Dickinson. They returned a number of times to San Miguel when the train from Laredo to Mexico City stopped here. Great scenery.
With his wife and 2 yr. old son he drove to San Miguel from Atlanta Georgia in a 1964 blue Pontiac 4 door. Wonderful, but slow drive from Matamoros to San Miguel.
He has been a painter for 50+ years dealing with different approaches in oil to create mostly, narrative works. A focus throughout his career has been Portrait painting.
Right now the course of change is taking place in his studio providing new images and abstract works.
