Celebrate Oktoberfest SMA Style

by Skip Essick

Oktoberfest has it’s origins in the 19th century when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen in Bavaria. Today, Oktoberfest is one of the world’s most celebrated festivals around the world. In Munich, Germany, it is a 16 day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first Sunday in October. More than 6 million people descend on the beer gardens of Munich each year to celebrate.

The rich and historical traditions of Oktoberfest are celebrated each year with the Midday Rotary Club’s annual commemoration of this world class celebration. Once again, Oktoberfest in San Miguel de Allende will take place October 19th, at Calle Los Gatos #12 Los Frailes. Here, this magnificent estate is transformed into a Munich Beer Garden. You’ll be served Homemade Bratwurst, Homemade Sauerkraut meticulously prepared by Herr Collins. Plus, there will be that most hearty of German pastas – Spaetzle. And, of course, imported German Beer. And if you feel like taking a swim, bring your suits because we’ll have a heated pool waiting for you. Es ist Wunderbar! There is no doubt you will have a fabulous time. But, most important is that the funds raised goes to the Midday Rotary Club’s community projects. Specifically, for clean water, dry composting toilets, and literacy projects in the poorest communities in the greater San Miguel de Allende municipality.

So save the date and grab your lederhosen! Join the Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende on October 19th for this areas most authentic Oktoberfest. Tickets are $500 pesos in advance or $600 peso’s at the door. You can purchase tickets through PayPal at RotarySanMiguelMidday@gmail.com or contact Tony Ronci at roncitony@gmail.com.
