Work by Juan Ordóñez

By Josefina Valentini

UMO turns 26 years in San Miguel. In 1993, art galleries were scarce. And, nowadays in San Miguel there are a few galleries that are still present from that time; some of them are El Atenea and La San Miguel. For a long time, San Miguel has been characterized by its international artistic environment. From the Bellas Artes and Instituto Allende art students to international artists an musicians, a bohemian life style unfolded in Daniel Sirdei’s Pétit Bar, the Mamamía and the long-living bar La Cucaracha.

The art gallery UMO has always been engaged with the contemporary art represented in its artistic installations and its 50 plus individual and collective art exhibitions as well as in its silver jewelry collection. On the other hand, UMO has been the venue for diverse theatre plays such as La comedia del universe of José Luis Mendoza and pastorelas of Damián Alcázar. Additionally, Gabriel Ordóñez’s (@gabsthecookSMA) gastronomic delicacies have been present in special dinners within the gallery.

In this occasion, you are all invited this Friday, January 25 at 6pm in Jesús 20 to the art exhibition in encaustic painting and paper drawing of the artist Juan Ordóñez.
