Lifting Hearts Through Poem, UU Service - spirit

At this Sunday’s Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Service, noted poet, author, teacher, and writing coach Judyth Hill offers inspiring spirited poetry across time and culture while sharing simple, doable ways each of us can welcome our own muse.

Hill reminds us that poets have always celebrated their experiences of the Holy, and the Holiness found daily in the ordinary, in the gift of our lives, and the amazing world around us. When we grieve and sorrow, words have the power to lift us, to give us hope, and to remind us of our own capability of doing good.

The power of poetry makes it a real force to be reckoned with. Poetry can affect all generations, and make people consider anything from love to loss. Indeed, poetry does what little else can, it can inspire. The poet speaks to the reader intimately and exclusively giving you an insight into the inner workings of their minds, their ideas, their loves and hates. If done well it can illuminate parts of life to the reader that had never been considered. Spoken word is no different; it is performance poetry that is rapidly growing in popularity. One of its most appealing qualities is that it can be performed in many ways varying from a soliloquy to rap. 

Hill invites us on a caravan of impassioned joy, sharing poems of ecstatic celebration, poems in love with the Divine, our lives, our beloveds, and our luscious earth. Poems that remind us who we are at our best, and explore the myriad easy and fun ways we can spread joy with our own gifts of expression.

The current President of PEN San Miguel, Hill conducts poetry and memoir workshops at conferences world-round, including the San Miguel Writers Conference, and leads global WildWriting Culinary Adventures with Eat-Write-Travel. She is the author of nine published books of poetry and the internationally acclaimed poem, “Wage Peace,” that has been published worldwide and set to music performed and recorded by national choirs and orchestras. Judyth was described by the St. Helena Examiner as "energy with skin,” and by the Denver Post as “a tigress with a pen.”
