Players Workshop and Stuffed Olive, Inc. present the world premiere of Soft Landing a new play by Emmy® Award winner Dorothy Lyman. The 70 minute comedy is directed by three time Tony® Award nominee, Broadway director, John Tillinger, and stars noted TV, Film and Stage veteran, Linda Carlson.

Soft Landing is a fiercely tender and funny tale about long-time couple Joyce and Siobhan who buy a flight to the moon aboard visionary billionaire, Elon Musk's Space-X rocket and the ensuing controversy the news causes in their fractious family. Joyce is played veteran actress Linda Carlson who appeared in the feature films The Pickle (directed by Paul Mazursky), The Beverly Hillbillies and Honey, I Blew Up the Kid. On TV she was a series regular on Murder One, Kaz and Westside Medical, and recurred on Newhart, NYPD Blue and Clueless as well as countless guest appearances. SMA favorite, actress/singer Clara Dunham plays Siobhan who yearns to leave her mark on the world by leaving it. Local audiences will remember Clara from such memorable Players Workshop productions as Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (VSMS), The 39 Steps and the annual Diez Minutos 10 Minute Play Festival.

Jill and Michael Gottlieb appear as Joyce's bewildered children, Jane and Dan who resist their mother's decision to fly to the moon. Since moving to SMA in 2006 the Gottliebs have performed in too many shows to list. They were seen most recently together last winter in Dorothy Lyman's sizzling drama A Rage in Tenure. Busy New York actors Jeanne Lauren Smith (A Rage in Tenure, Jeannelaurensmith.com) and Brennan Lowery (Enemy, VSMS, Brennanlowery.com) round out the stellar cast as Joyce's grown grandchildren enlisted by their mother Jane to dissuade Grandma from her moon shot. Whose side are they on?

The plays's director, John Tillinger is a 3-time Tony-nominated director who has directed original plays by America’s best playwrights: A.R. Gurney; Arthur Miller; Terrance McNally; Tom Dulak and Joe Orton among others, as well as revivals of many famous plays. In addition to his Tony nods, he has won 2 Lucille Lortel Awards, 2 Outer Critic Circle Awards and 1 Drama Desk Award.

This is proudly Players Workshop's third collaboration with actress/director/playwright/producer Dorothy Lyman. This is Ms. Lyman’s second play. Her first, A Rage in Tenure, was produced at the Teatro Santa Ana last winter. A 10-minute version of Soft Landing was produced as part of the International Midtown Theatre Festival in New York City last July where it won first prize, so Ms. Lyman was encouraged to expand it. She is also an Emmy® Award winning actress and director. And she was married to John Tillinger from 1971-79. They happily share two children and two grand girls.
