The plants of our region are the result of a fascinating process of evolutionary adaptation over many millennia, occupying their place and their specific function within the semi-arid ecosystems. They are species that have developed varied and amazing strategies, which have allowed them to survive with water scarcity and extreme temperatures, giving us their natural beauty. They are also plants that have accompanied the inhabitants of these lands for millennia, offering them food, healing, shelter and sustenance.
In view of the unquestionable reality of global warming, which is especially affecting the semi-arid regions of the planet -like ours-, new strategies are indispensable to face the ongoing desertification process, starting with a change of mentality regarding our gardens, as well as the parks and green areas of our cities. No more English grasses or exotic plants with high water consumption. It is time to look at the diversity and beauty of the native species of our region – trees, shrubs, grasses, succulents – perfectly adapted to resist the growing effects of the climate crisis we are living through – and well known to local farming communities.
Through this Biocultural Fair, the Botanical Garden proposes and promotes a new awareness, offering for sale specimens of diverse native species at affordable prices. The fair also includes workshops and talks to learn about planting, watering and care, so that the purchased plants grow strong and healthy.

Las plantas de nuestra región son el resultado de un fascinante proceso de adaptación evolutiva a lo largo de milenios, ocupando su lugar y función específica dentro de los ecosistemas semiáridos. Son especies que han desarrollado estrategias variadas y sorprendentes que les han permitido sobrevivir a la escasez de agua y a las temperaturas extremas, brindándonos su belleza natural. También son plantas que han acompañado a los habitantes de estas tierras durante milenios, ofreciéndoles alimento, sanación, refugio y sustento.
Ante la incuestionable realidad del calentamiento global, que afecta especialmente a las regiones semiáridas del planeta, como la nuestra, es indispensable implementar nuevas estrategias para afrontar el continuo proceso de desertificación, empezando por un cambio de mentalidad respecto a nuestros jardines, así como a los parques y zonas verdes de nuestras ciudades. Se acabaron las hierbas inglesas y las plantas exóticas que consumen mucha agua. Es hora de contemplar la diversidad y la belleza de las especies nativas de nuestra región —árboles, arbustos, hierbas, suculentas— perfectamente adaptadas para resistir los crecientes efectos de la crisis climática que vivimos y bien conocidas por las comunidades agrícolas locales. A través de esta Feria Biocultural, el Jardín Botánico propone y promueve una nueva conciencia, ofreciendo a la venta ejemplares de diversas especies nativas a precios accesibles. La feria también incluye talleres y charlas para aprender sobre la siembra, el riego y el cuidado, para que las plantas adquiridas crezcan fuertes y sanas.
