Older work not before shown in San Miguel, along with recent memory paintings by Henry Vermillion are featured in a reception and opening.
As we all know, the honored and respected role of original paintings is to add a note of beauty and substantiality to the furnishing of a home. That role is borne by a number of the works in this show, but there are other works—such as “The Christmas Present”, which tell stories not immediately clear. Other recent paintings show personal events in the history of the artist, such as childhood fights or rough games. Some large (and small) paintings grew out of pen and ink drawings (on napkins) in bars and restaurants. Others are scenes the artist has witnessed: KKK marches, politicians, ordinary people, brothel scenes, relatives, models; and some mythical characters and scenes show up as well.
“Why complicate things? Why not paint things people know and love?”, the painter has been asked. “The problem is I´m interested in much more.”

En la recepción e inauguración se presentarán obras antiguas inéditas en San Miguel, junto con pinturas recientes de Henry Vermillion que evocan recuerdos.
Como todos sabemos, la función de las pinturas originales es añadir un toque de belleza y sustancia a la decoración de un hogar. Varias de las obras de esta exposición cumplen esa función, pero hay otras, como "El Regalo de Navidad", que narran historias que no son del todo claras. Otras pinturas recientes muestran acontecimientos personales del artista, como peleas infantiles o juegos bruscos. Algunas pinturas grandes (y pequeñas) surgieron de dibujos a pluma y tinta (en servilletas) en bares y restaurantes. Otras son escenas que el artista ha presenciado: marchas del KKK, políticos, gente común, escenas de burdeles, familiares, modelos; y también aparecen algunos personajes y escenas míticas.
“¿Para qué complicar las cosas? ¿Por qué no pintar cosas que la gente conoce y ama?”, le han preguntado al pintor. “El problema es que me interesa mucho más”.
