We are delighted to present our annual MOSTLY MOZART weekend of concerts with music by the Master and his contemporaries. We have assembled a fantastic line up of top musicians, including one of your favorite pianists, William Ransom, and noted French Horn player, Bruce Heim, as the horn is the featured instrument in the weekend’s programs on Friday and Sunday, March 14 and 16, both at 5 pm at St. Paul’s church. Bruce is an acclaimed horn player known for his expressive tone and masterful technique. He is joined by several Vega Quartet members, who have played here to great acclaim many times, including violinist Jessica Wu, who captivates audiences with her passionate interpretations and dynamic playing. Also joining us will be violinist Yinzi Kong, who delighted you with her concerts for us last season; and Joseph Skerik, a violist celebrated for his warm sound and sensitive musicianship. Completing the ensemble is Guang Wang, the Vega’s esteemed cellist, whose deep, resonant tone and expressive phrasing brings great depth sonority to the ensemble’s sound.
Mozart dominates the program, of course, setting a tone of elegance, wit, and lively brilliance. On Friday we open the weekend with his Quintet for Horn and Strings, a delightful work that treats the horn more like a soloist than an integrated ensemble member, offering joyful exchanges between instruments. This is followed by his Piano Quartet in G Minor, a work full of contrasts, blending stormy drama with moments of pure lyricism. After the intermission we will hear Glazunov’s Idyll and Serenade. Composed in his youth, this is a lush, evocative work, brimming with charm and Russian emotion. The concert concludes with Brahms’ stunning Horn Trio, a deeply personal work, infused with nostalgia and sweeping romanticism.
Tickets for the concerts at St. Paul’s are $300, $500, and $750 pesos donation each, and are on sale through our website, and at the concert 45 minutes before performance time. Details of all Pro Musica’s concerts and Patron Membership are on our website, www.promusicasma.org, or contact us at promusicasma@gmail.com.
