San Miguel de Allende prepares a peaceful march after the tragedy in Malanquín.
Citizens call to go out dressed in black this Friday, August 22; they call for peace, justice and concrete actions from the authorities.
As a result of the tragedy that occurred last Sunday during the festivity in honor of the Virgin of San Juan in the Infonavit Malanquín neighborhood, where so far three people have died and 18 were injured, different sectors of civil society have called for a peaceful march that will take place on Friday, August 22 at 10am.
The march seeks to be an act of union and resistance in the face of the violence that has shaken the municipality, traditionally recognized as one of the most touristic and quiet destinations in the country. The organizers ask attendees to come as a family and in a peaceful way, carrying candles, flowers or posters in memory of the victims.
In the messages circulating among the citizenry, a common feeling can be read: "Today we mourn the loss of young people, the pain of wounded families and the rupture of the tranquility that was promised to us so much. San Miguel cannot continue to live in fear or under silence."
The invitation is addressed to all sectors: students, workers, merchants, entrepreneurs, civil organizations, communities, the elderly, young people and churches.
"It is time to raise our voices, to recover the peace and tranquility that was taken from us. We demand that the authorities do the corresponding thing," says the message that accompanies the call.
Without partisan overtones, it is hoped to demand security and justice, since San Miguel belongs to everyone and they do not want to go out in fear to the streets and neither do they want the festivals and traditions to be lived with fear.
This Friday’s mobilization will be the first citizen demonstration after the acts of violence in Malanquín and will set a precedent on the way in which the people of San Miguel decide to respond collectively to insecurity.

San Miguel de Allende se prepara para una marcha pacífica tras la tragedia en Malanquín.
La ciudadanía convoca a salir vestidos de negro este viernes 22 de agosto; se exige paz, justicia y acciones concretas por parte de las autoridades.
A raíz de la tragedia ocurrida el domingo pasado durante la festividad en honor a la Virgen de San Juan en la colonia Infonavit Malanquín, donde hasta el momento tres personas han fallecido y 18 resultaron heridas, distintos sectores de la sociedad civil han convocado a una marcha pacífica que se realizará el viernes 22 de agosto a las 10am.
La marcha busca ser un acto de unión y resistencia ante la violencia que ha sacudido al municipio, tradicionalmente reconocido como uno de los destinos más turísticos y tranquilos del país. Los organizadores piden a los asistentes acudir en familia y de manera pacífica, llevando velas, flores o carteles en memoria de las víctimas.
En los mensajes que circulan entre la ciudadanía se lee un sentir común: "Hoy lamentamos la pérdida de jóvenes, el dolor de familias lastimadas y la ruptura de la tranquilidad que tanto se nos prometió. San Miguel no puede seguir viviendo con miedo ni en silencio."
La invitación está dirigida a todos los sectores: estudiantes, trabajadores, comerciantes, emprendedores, organizaciones civiles, comunidades, personas mayores, jóvenes e iglesias.
"Es momento de alzar la voz, de recuperar la paz y la tranquilidad que nos fue arrebatada. Exigimos que las autoridades actúen en consecuencia", señala el mensaje que acompaña la convocatoria.
Sin tintes partidistas, se busca exigir seguridad y justicia, pues San Miguel es de todos y no se quiere salir con miedo a las calles ni que las fiestas y tradiciones se vivan con temor.
La movilización de este viernes será la primera manifestación ciudadana tras los hechos de violencia en Malanquín y marcará un precedente sobre la forma en que el pueblo de San Miguel decide responder colectivamente a la inseguridad.
