It will be the eighth official PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS concert event, and it’s going to be a real party—the Edición Delux, in fact!
Come join me and an outstanding group of artists, including the one and only Lauren Mitchell, a gifted blues and jazz singer who just this year was awarded a Grammy for her appearance on “Basie Swings the Blues.”
Her husband, bassist Jack Joshua, will lay down grooves so funky that it will be hard to stay in your seat.
My wonderful Latin jazz band MediaNoche with Victor Monterrubio, Mario Torres and Ruben Olvera will not only be at the center of almost every arrangement, they will also have their own moments in the spotlight as individuals.
And it gives me great pride to announce that the brilliant jazz guitarist Francisco Lelo De Larrea will be joining us from Mexico City. He’s flat out amazing, as anyone who has seen him will tell you.
Of course, you love the wonderful violinist Yala Torres from the Hot Tamales but we are going to showcase his stylistic versatility this evening. Expect to be surprised.
Rounding out the ensemble is the gifted young saxophone player from Cuba, Freddy Thompson. And believe it or not, there might even be a couple of other local heroes on the stage as well.
What kind of music? Solo piano, blues, light classical, bump and grind funk, straight ahead and original Latin jazz. Maybe even a little surf music. Vocals, instrumentals. All with an eye towards presenting combinations of talent that you have never seen here in San Miguel.
Here’s the deal – the tickets are still being printed and they will go on sale at the Peralta box office soon—I will keep you posted, but I wanted to let this great community of music lovers know to mark this evening on your calendar. Please send me a message if you’re sure you’re coming. This is an ambitious show, and we’ve tried to keep the ticket prices as low as possible so that everyone has a chance to enjoy the music.
