A Legacy of 25 Years of Color and Emotion
at Casa de la Noche

In our picturesque town of San Miguel de Allende, the walls of Casa de la Noche tell stories of art, culture, and enduring friendships. This year, we celebrate a remarkable 25-year partnership between Rubén Morales Patiño, a celebrated artist from Morelia, and Barbara Edell Poole, the passionate owner of Casa de la Noche and Bordello Galería.

Rubén Morales was born on February 23, 1947, in Morelia, Michoacán. His early life was marked by hardship, losing his mother at a tender age, limited formal education, and a poor economic upbringing. Despite the challenges he faced, Rubén's love for art blossomed. He began sketching as a child, using whatever materials he could find. His journey into the world of painting began in earnest in the mid-1980s, where he found his voice and style that would captivate many.

Barbara Poole first discovered Rubén's art in the 1990s while visiting Morelia. Captivated by the emotion and vibrancy in his work, she sought him out, leading to a fruitful collaboration that would span decades. As she established Bordello Galería in the historic Casa de la Noche, Rubén's art became an integral part of the space, enriching the atmosphere with its colorful narratives.

The exhibitions at Bordello Galería have always been more than just displays of art; they are celebrations of life, culture, and the shared experiences of the community. Rubén's ability to evoke emotion through his paintings—often featuring faceless figures in everyday situations—resonates deeply with viewers. His goal is to create moods rather than mere images, a philosophy that has defined his artistic journey.

Throughout the years, Rubén's work has gained recognition and awards not only locally but also internationally. His paintings have found homes in the collections of art lovers from various parts of the world. As he reflects on his career, Rubén acknowledges the influence of artists like Diego Rivera, whose focus on the common man resonates with his own themes, albeit without the political undertones.

As we prepare for the upcoming exhibition, we thought to title this "OUR MEXICO - 25 Years Together," as we are reminded of the significance of this milestone. It is a celebration of Rubén's artistic legacy and the deep bond he has formed with Barbara and the community over the years. This special exhibition will showcase the evolution of his work, inviting viewers to explore the rich cultural heritage of Mexico through his eyes.

The relationship between Rubén and Barbara is a testament to the power of art to forge connections and inspire. Their journey together has not only enriched the local art scene but has also created a space where creativity can thrive. As we celebrate this 25-year partnership, we honor the resilience, passion, and dedication that both Rubén and Barbara bring to their work.

Join us at the Bordello Galería for the opening night of this special exhibition.

Let us come together to celebrate not just the art but the enduring spirit of friendship and creativity that has defined Rubén Morales Patiño's journey at Casa de la Noche.

Rubén will be present for the opening reception held Saturday evening, March 22, 5 to 7 PM at the Bordello Galería. His work will be featured on the Bordello walls for the following month.

Hopefully Ruben can be present at the close of the exhibit as well.

For those who would like to meet this delightful painter, don't miss this opportunity! Fragile health has been a challenge, but Morales' sweet spirit continues to glow though his contribution and inspiration to the Mexican art scene.

Bordello GalerÍa and Casa de la Noche are located at Organos 19, 1/2 block off Hernandez Macias.
