Sheinbaum: Implications for Democracy and US Relations

Carlos Bravo Regidor is a prominent Mexican political commentator, academic, and journalist known for his insightful analysis of Mexican politics, public policy, media and democracy. His voice is highly respected in both academic and journalistic circles, making him one of the most influential commentators in Mexico today. With Sheinbaum taking the helm in October of 2024, and a new American president taking office in January of 2025, Carlos’ insights into the U.S.-Mexico political relationship will make this conversation exceptionally timely and informative.
Bravo Regidor was a full-time professor at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) for 12 years, where he also directed the Journalism Program and edited both chronicles and investigative journalism pieces published both in Mexican and international outlets such as Animal Político, Proceso, Gatopardo, Newsweek, The Guardian, The New Yorker and The Atavist.
He is also a well-known public intellectual who frequently contributes to national and international media outlets. In Mexico, his columns and commentary have been featured in leading newspapers and is a regular contributor at Expansión Política, where he also has a podcast (Política y Otros Datos) where he offers in-depth analysis of current political events and trends. And he is also a member of La Hora de Opinar, the top TV program of political debate in Mexico.
Bravo Regidor’s expertise is not limited to Mexican media. He has also contributed to American publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Hill, Dissent and The New York Review of Books. He is one of the most quoted Mexican voices in the international press because of his nuanced perspectives not only about Mexico but on U.S.-Mexico relations, immigration, and the challenges facing democracy worldwide.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from El Colegio de México (Colmex), one of Mexico’s most prestigious academic institutions. He furthered his education in the United States, studying both an M.A. and a PhD in History at the University of Chicago.
