“Every city should have a bastion of Jazz ”— these are the words of Jaime Valle, who, along with Victor Monterrubio, formed the San Miguel Jazz Alliance (SMJA) to cultivate the art of improvisation and keep the flame alive by honoring jazz’s great composers.
This supergroup gathers some of the finest international jazz artists, each with their own distinct sound and experience. Alfred Thompson, an alto saxophonist from Cuba, weaves hypnotic, storytelling melodies infused with Latin tinge. Pianist Papacho Sirdey’s rhythmic approach and angular lines draws from his multicultural background, blending tradition with innovation. Bassist Sergio Carrillo grounds the ensemble with a forward-moving drive honed through years of collaboration in myriad original projects nationwide. Drummer Victor Monterrubio’s solid, propulsive energy elevates the group to exhilarating heights. And, of course, Jaime Valle, whose guitar work reflects a profound knowledge and love for jazz’s timeless legacy.
For this special concert, the SMJA will delve deeply into the African roots of Brazilian samba, forging dynamic connections with Hard Bop, Caribbean rhythms, and Modern Jazz.

“Toda ciudad debería tener un bastión del jazz”, estas son las palabras de Jaime Valle, quien, junto con Víctor Monterrubio, formó la Alianza de Jazz de San Miguel (SMJA) para cultivar el arte de la improvisación y mantener viva la llama del jazz honrando a los grandes compositores.
Este supergrupo reúne a algunos de los mejores artistas internacionales de jazz, cada uno con su propio sonido y experiencia. Alfred Thompson, saxofonista alto cubano, teje melodías hipnóticas y narrativas con un toque latino. El enfoque rítmico y las líneas angulares del pianista Papacho Sirdey se nutren de su origen multicultural, fusionando tradición e innovación. El bajista Sergio Carrillo cimenta el conjunto con un impulso progresista, perfeccionado durante años de colaboración en innumerables proyectos originales a nivel nacional. La energía sólida y propulsiva del baterista Víctor Monterrubio eleva al grupo a alturas emocionantes. Y, por supuesto, Jaime Valle, cuyo trabajo con la guitarra refleja un profundo conocimiento y amor por el legado atemporal del jazz.
Para este concierto especial, la SMJA profundizará en las raíces africanas de la samba brasileña, forjando conexiones dinámicas con el hard bop, los ritmos caribeños y el jazz moderno.
