Lindsay Duval
Having lived in New York City, Rio de Janeiro and now San Miguel de Allende has shaped my life and consequently influenced my ceramic sculptures. Working with the alchemy of earth, fire, water while using my hands as the primary tool of creation is an intensely personal artistic experience. I work intuitively but have a continuous inner dialogue with the initial cluster of clay. When I begin the creative process with a batch of clay I'm guided by a variety of techniques acquired over the years from distinguished instructors. I undertake the journey in a thoughtful manner and eventually my inner nature endeavors to define my hand built low temperature, raku creations. The work tends to morph into chaotic organic, even abstract figures, with a provocative life of their own. Upn reflection, if the piece brings a smile to my face and a song to my heart, then and only then, do I consciously choose to share it publicly.

My career spans more than a decade and many of my pieces are in private collections in North and South America as well as Europe. Thank you for visiting the gallery and please enjoy my sculptures.

MJ

Painting, Mural, Miscellaneous

Born January 17, 1984, in Morelia Michoacán, I was interested in creating art for as long as I can remember. I began painting around five years old, thanks to my father. He introduced me to art; everyday he taught me something different, like drawing a rabbit or a bear. He is a big plant aficionado, too, so he showed me how to draw lots of animals and flowers. During my whole childhood and much of my adolescence | attended drawing, sculpting, paper mache, music and printing classes. Later, I was accepted at the Instituto de las Bellas Artes in Morelia to study Visual Arts.

After college graduation I began a career as an industrial designer, eventually opening the design studio ARTE PERRON. We fabricated everything from chairs and bedside stands to bookcases, desks, and dining tables -- all from discarded pallet wood. After a few years I longed to return to painting and began by creating hand-painted signs out of wood scraps. I produced signs with a vintage feel for hotels, restaurants, bars and private homes. Then the work evolved: signs became paintings on the wall for classrooms, bars, playgrounds, and spas.

Over time, my work grew in size and impact: I continued to develop both commercial and residential clients and focussed on murals. Whether I am creating murals for businesses, or working on private commissioned pieces, I always bring a sense of joy to my work. Flowers and animals in particular are still a favorite motif; | feel mother nature is calling me to explore her.

I'm thirty-seven[c] now and have been creating murals for eight years. I love the freedom of having a job that doesn't feel like one. During Covid I moved to San Miguel de Allende thinking it would be a quiet reflective period. On the contrary, I have been busier than ever!

Living in SMA has changed my life. I am so happy I can pursue my dreams; art is an amazing playground where I can explore so many possibilities and delight clients along the way.
Please visit my shop at www.mjmuralart.com to see my paintings, murals, and related work.

Works on Paper (Printmaking, Photography)

My perspective as an artist is strongly influenced by my education as a scientist. My training in Genetics, Population Biology, and Evolution obliges me to look at the natural world as a matrix of organisms in space and time. I hope my art will inspire the viewer to look more closely at the complexities of a world we are often too busy to see. I do not have a single working style, and produce works across a wide spectrum of media and styles, unified by a clarity of vision, precision of technique, and attention to detail.

Salvador Camacho Mandujano is 76. When he was ten, in Apaseo el Alto, he was drawn to the art of woodcarving. He had a God given gift to carve wood into whatever shapes he wanted. For the most part, he taught himself to carve. He was drawn to the small details in the art that another carver might ignore. The small details are what set Salvador apart, and give his carvings texture and life. Salvador continues to work every day in his studio in Apaseo. Decades ago they said he was an alchemist with wood. Today they call him Maestro.

NADINE GAY
www.artnadinegay.com

I was born in France, came to New York in the mid-seventy’s and graduated from
Pratt Institute in 1980. I have shown extensively in the U.S while teaching art
through a wide spectrum of programs and designing large installations in the
community.

In 2015, I retired from teaching art in California, relocated to the Rogue Valley in
Oregon before moving to San Miguel de Allende this year.
I love to combine my ceramic pieces with natural and found objects to create
assemblages. Recently, I have started to explore biomorphic shapes that reflect
my joy and deep appreciation of nature. During this pandemic, like many people,
I found solace and joy in my garden, soaking in the beauty and peace of my
surroundings. It led me to a new direction in my work and I started creating bright
colorful pieces. I imagined myself to be Alice in a Wonderland garden that was
full of surprises.

I create in an intuitive way. What gets revealed over time, when I look at a body
of my work, is often unexpected. This playful conversation between my dreams,
images and the materials at hand feels deeply satisfying. Stories emerge, the
child in me delights in what comes to life.
