Art for the Children
Rodarte Artisan Fair
Saturday, Sunday, January 27, 28
Instituto Allende

January 21, 2024

Rodarte is a community art education program, a project whose goal is to provide art workshops to promote artistic development for low-income children in isolated rural communities near San Miguel de Allende.

Rodarte Artisan Fair features art, crafts, food, including:
jewelry, textiles, home decor, clothing, accessories, candles, leather goods, traditional scarves, and lots more. All made in Mexico. Come support our emerging artists, artisans, and entrepreneurs.

Each purchase also supports Rodarte's weekly art classes.

Rodarte's art classes are conducted in collaboration with renowned artists and established galleries of San Miguel, currently in the school in the village of La Lagunilla (off the road to Jalpa), a unitarian school with 1 teacher, 6 grades, and 18 students.

In conjunction with the Instituto Allende, Rodarte has run hundreds and hundreds of Saturday workshops over eight years. In addition to these classes, one time each semester, Rodarte brings these students into San Miguel to visit Parque Juarez and other places of interest.

Your support of the artisans at Rodarte's weekend Artisan Fairs helps pay for the materials, transportation costs, and salaries of the teachers involved in Rodarte's work with these children. Volunteers are always welcome.

Rodarte aims to train creativity and critical thinking, along with the knowledge and skills that enable children to detect and solve problems related to the creation, analysis, evaluation, and management of images, especially those of an artistic nature, as well as to teach and ensure the transmission of the attitudes, knowledge, skills and values involved in the process.

Specifically, Rodarte's goals are to help children in these ways:

1. Improve the quality of life of students and their parents.
2. Provide an art education program of high quality.
3. Develop fine motor skills and psychomotor control.
4. Use varied techniques to develop tactile and visual textures of varying complexity, leading children to discover new possibilities of expression.
5. Include attention to reading, science, and math, when relevant.
6. Help children heal from negative experiences in their lives through artistic expression, with the help of a staff psychologist.
7. Emphasize the value of education to children's futures.
