Fashion Parade is an annual event that aims to promote and support design and creativity in San Miguel de Allende. On this occasion it will take place on November 7, 2023 at Hacienda Los Arcángeles. With a different theme each year, participating designers and artists will create exclusive collections and installations that will be on sale during the event. Attendees will be able to enjoy an evening full of design, art and creativity. Isabel Castejón, one of the creators of Fashion Parade (along with Isabel Pascacio and Paola Pacheco), tells us about what will happen in this edition.

Lucy Novaro: Tell us about this year's theme; Fashion in Film for Fashion Parade 2023.
Isabel Castejón: Fashion plays a fundamental role in the creation of a character for film, functioning as an intermediary between the individual and the narrative. Likewise, the character's wardrobe establishes a connection between his or her identity and the plot of the film.

LN: What is the objective of this event?
IC: We want to show how clothing can change our perception of the character and make us understand him or her better, as well as the connection between identity and the plot of the film. We also hope that you can analyze the garments, the fabrics, and how they play with the lights and, ultimately, this visually affects the viewer. There are several inspirations and one of these is to pay homage to cinema, creating a collection inspired by a film and a character.

LN: Can cinema benefit from fashion?
IC: Fashion and clothing not only serve as practical links between narrative and character, but aid in the integration of psychoanalysis into its plot and story. The visual presence has an authoritative command over the plot, either complementing the narrative or dissociating itself from it. Fashion serves as a functional mediator between the character and the narrative of the film, providing insight into the psychology of the characters; in turn, fashion inserts that awareness as a component of the story and plot. Since film is a visual medium, it can benefit from fashion to force both the audience and the actors themselves to understand the character, either by complementing the narrative or by dissociating from it.

LN: How are designers going to develop their collections in this theme, and does this influence the public to buy these garments?
IC: Character development has been intrinsic in the creation of garments. Designers often focus on a single identity to imagine complete collections. That's why Fashion Parade is encouraging creators this year to pay homage to cinema by creating a collection inspired by a film, a character, or the film industry itself. Each designer will be supported by a custom set design and a score inspired by their collection.
