What Music Is
Sunday evening concerts

July 7, 2024

by Bobby Kapp

Can you hear the sound of tying your shoe laces?
That subtle shhh when you pull your two sides tight and feel the pull of the bow you just designed?

A door opens and closes and something drops out of your pocket,
the thud when it hits the floor.
Kitchen symphony as pots, pans, utensils of all sorts
come in and out of play.

Oh, the faucet's waterfall melody
and the drain’s response.
Anything we do do makes some sort of sound
if we pay attention.

The "Now" is not in a book or concept
but the flow of our lives.
We are always in our own concert.
Let it ring with our love of it.

Bobby Kapp and his trio plus one play the music of life for you every Sunday at 7pm at Café Rama, Nemesio Diez 7, just down a little from the Rosewood Hotel.

Bobby Kapp / Robert Kaplan, from Highland Park, New Jersey, was unloading tires from a tractor-trailer one day when he decided to leave home. With a school mate's old Dodge and a silver sparkle Ludwig drum kit, he was off to the Catskill Mountains to make a gig. Then he became the blues in Parkersburg, West Virginia, school music at Berklee in Boston, life music on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and how to use a piece of rope as an emergency fan belt on a VW in Mexico, which is called improvising.
