Polyphony

by Pascual Hijuelos

As a child I had the good fortune to be part of an all-male choir. Consequently, I developed a great love for polyphony, Gregorian chant and religious rituals. I truly believe that my aesthetic choices are a result of this experience. In polyphonic works, you are simultaneously combining a number of parts, each forming an individual melody and harmonizing with each other. As a formalist painter, I am constantly weighing and adjusting time-space relations, the imagery, the color and texture to create a harmonic experience.
