Walking by the old apothecary in Centro, I remembered how much I liked those patent medicine ads from the late 1800s and early 1900s. They spoke to you directly about the miracles their products could perform. They promised cures for whatever ails you, from tiredness to tummy-ache, for too much weight or not enough. Drink this down, rub that in, mix this into your breakfast!

These early products of the modern advertising industry gave me the idea for a short series of art pieces. In these, the composition, the look and feel, would be like those ads. But, instead of snake oil, they would advertise life, emphasizing the need to get a grasp on our mortality, to get on with our projects because life is short.
