Elusive Moments

by Pascual Hijuelos

We are living in a period of uncertainty; ecologically, politically and spiritually. It is rare to be with friends and not broach one of these topics. It is even rarer to find an immediate solution. This inefficacy leaves an underlying feeling of impotence.

It is this ethereal veil of futility that affects me strongly. It is an intangible which overshadows almost everything. As an artist I try to alleviate my frustration, through my work. I introduce elusive relations which help me encapsulate and neutralize my disappointments. For my viewers I try to create an enigmatic moment; a moment which although irrational offers solace and a sense of hope.

"Without the hope of posterity, for our race if not for ourselves, without the assurance that we being dead yet live, all pleasures of the mind and senses sometimes seem to me no more than pathetic and crumbling defences shored up against our ruin."
- P.D. James, The Children of Men
