HEALY contemporaneo is proud to present the second solo exhibiton by Patricia García at the gallery. Patricia García is celebrated for her masterful use of abstract and representational forms, capturing the delicate interplay between light, shadow and composition across still life, figure and landscape. This highly anticipated exhibition opens on Saturday, November 16th, with the artist attending.
This dog breed's Nahuatl name, xoloitzcuintlis – which is in the language of the Nahua peoples, including the Aztec – comes from the name of the god who created him, Xolotl, who ruled over the sunset, lightening and death, and the Nahuatl word for dog, itzquintli.
According to creation stories, humans and xoloizcuincles were formed from the same Bone of Life. Xolos were a gift to humans to guard them in life and then to accompany their souls on the journey to the underworld. Once almost extinct, artists Diego Rivera and Frida Khalo helped revive the breed by depicting the xolos in their respective works.
Today, the significance of the Mesoamerican history of the Xolos is exemplified in the spirit of Patricia García's extraordinary work. She states:
