We definitely fit the definition of "Strange Bedfellows," given our differing backgrounds and history. But, not a couple, the only bed we share is metaphorical.
On the other hand Edward and I have are both quite similar in many ways. We have been neighbors and good friends for nearly 20 years.
Oddness is in the eye of the beholder, so come decide for yourself.
The exhibition photos are a true collaboration between kindred spirits. Alongside Edward's distinctive drawings and sculpture, the photos highlight his versatility and my good fortune for having such a creative partner in crime.
- Russell Monk
Edward Swift grew up in the Big Thicket of East Texas, a land of dense forests and swamps which in olden days was known as a hiding place for renegades. In 1967 he happily escaped to New York City where he lived for 40 years. There, he became a member of a legendary writing class taught by Marguerite Young and exhibited his visual art at the 220 Gallery in Chelsea.
Edward is the author of 8 novels and a memoir, My Grandfather's Finger, about his Texas family all of whom had larger than life personalities. In Mexico, he continues to write and exhibit in the Museum of Queretaro, the Museum of the Sierra Gorda, Fabrica la Aurora, The Chapel of Jimmy Ray, and Mixta, amongst others. This is his second exhibition at Carral Espacio.
