Graciela González Kauffmann was born in Oaxaca in 1946. Since childhood, Graciela wanted to study music and painting. She explains, "Music has always been an integral part of my life. I started learning the piano at the age of nine and when it was time to choose a career, I opted for music with a hidden aspiration to also delve into the world of painting. I soon realized that the knowledge I had acquired in musical harmony and composition would be advantageous when I eventually delved into painting. I can perceive rhythm in the sequence of moons floating in space or in the harmonious fluttering of butterflies. Additionally, I can discern musical form in the harmony and balance of pictorial composition. Painting and music are two languages that complement and enrich each other."
Pigments, water, rice paper, Chinese ink, gold leaf and an endless array of materials shape the work of Graciela. Her work is nourished by fantasy and an inner world full of magic.
In this world the laws of gravity do not exist and anything can happen: fish spinning hypnotically around a marine sphere, women wearing sumptuous headdresses, symbols of a joyful femininity, a lace dragonfly waiting for dawn to take flight, a mirror that cannot forget the image of a beloved woman and refuses to reflect anyone else. Fish, butterfly, dragonfly, night brocades and lace... a world that gives life to this series.
