Join us for an evening celebrating transformation, renewal and artistic evolution through the distinct, yet resonant works of Mexican master painters Carlos Larracilla and Ricky Granna.

METANOIA brings together two uniquely compelling artistic practices united by a shared exploration of transformation, material inquiry and perceptual shift. Through rigorous formal language and conceptual depth, Larracilla and Granna each engage the viewer in a dialogue between structure and emotion, permanence and change.

"Metanoia [profound, spiritual change] is not a dramatic gesture," explains Larracilla, "It is quieter than that. It is the moment when the soul pivots, when what once felt solid begins to dissolve, and something truer, though unfamiliar, emerges. My work lives in that threshold."

We would be honored by your presence at the opening reception of METANOIA at HEALY contemporaneo on Saturday, February 21 from 4-7pm, in the iconic Pasaje Allende, Puente de Umaran #15, Centro, 1/2 block up from the entrance of the Mercado Ignacio Ramirez.

Carlos Larracilla

Carlos Larracilla is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Mexican art, known for his evocative paintings that blend introspection, symbolism, and a vivid exploration of emotional landscapes. Born in Guadalajara in 1976, Larracilla's artistic journey did not begin in a traditional studio. It began within his own inner life.

Larracilla's paintings are immediately recognizable for their emotional intensity and symbolic depth. Women and animals frequently populate his work, suggesting inner worlds rich with metaphor and psychological resonance. His compositions often evoke the tensions between light and shadow—both literally and as emotional states—revealing hidden facets of the human condition.

Carlos Larracilla's work has garnered critical recognition and numerous awards. He has exhibited widely, participating in over 120 exhibitions both solo and collective, across Mexico, the United States, Europe and the United Arab Emirates. His work has been featured in galleries and cultural events from Guadalajara's museums to international venues.

Today Larracilla stands as a respected figure in the Mexican contemporary art scene, an artist whose work bridges introspection, cultural discourse, and expressive force. His paintings invite viewers to look beyond surface imagery and consider the deeper questions that shape both individual lives and collective experiences.

The gallery welcomes Carlos Larracilla to his second exhibition at HEALY contemporaneo San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Ricky Granna

Ricky Granna is a contemporary Mexican artist born in 1975 in the Riviera de Chapala, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. His artistic career began in his late teens with collective exhibitions around the Chapala area and has grown to include more than 70 individual and group exhibitions.

As an artist, he is known for being polifacetico, working in painting, drawing and muralism. His mural works include significant commissions in religious settings such as the Iglesia d del Carmen e Nuestra Senora and the Baptistery of the Parroquia de San Francisco as well as a mural in San Antonio, Texas. Granna's imagery often includes fantasmas (ghostly figures) that suggest existential absence and are a visual metaphor for memory and identity.

His painting style synthesizes elements of tenebrism and Baroque art, influenced by classical masters like Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Jose de Ribera, and Vermeer, while incorporating symbolic, timeless, and fantastical elements. Granna also participates in international artistic collaborations, such as Colores de Latinoamerica en Corea, and is a member of the artistic group Loteria Mexicana, which connects Mexican and European artists.
