 Andrew Osta was born in Kiev Ukraine, raised in Canada and is currently living in Mexico. He is a self-taught artist who has been exhibiting professionally since 2006. His art has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Canada, USA, Mexico, Peru, South Korea, France, Italy, and Switzerland. He had his first museum show in San Remo in 2016 and will be having a second museum show in Durango, Mexico in 2017. In San Miguel, he was a close friend of Toller Cranston and Marion Perlet. His style of painting continues their tradition of Magical Realism.  They say that art and prostitution are two of the oldest professions and there’s been a bit of both at Madam Turca’s “Casa de la Noche†and the Bordello Galeria. Originally one of San Miguel’s oldest houses of ill repute, Casa de la Noche had its beginning as a bordello run by an infamous Turkish madam. It’s now a pretty guesthouse and gallery owned by Barbara Poole, a California painter and now a resident of San Miguel de Allende. In 2005, after extensive renovations, Casa de la Noche evolved into a 14bedroom guesthouse featuring original art, fountains, flowers, and terraces with panoramic views. It recently has been expanded to include the Madam’s residence, Casa de Besos, and accommodates up to 28 people. ***** Dicen que el arte y la prostitución son dos de las profesiones más antiguas y que ha habido un poco tanto en la Casa de la Noche de Madame Turca como en la Galeria Bordello.  Marilo Carral's art can be best described as Neo-Impressionism; her Fauvist use of color palette used throughout Mexico, with her quick deft brush strokes, brings a body of work of pure joy. Exact naturalistic representation is not the goal of Carral's ambitious paintings. What she usually achieves is a dramatic, brilliantly colored and idealized interpretation of very picturesque settings. The magic of her particular vision is perhaps best described as lyrical. She does not first draw her subject matter with pencil or charcoal onto the canvas, but instead attacks the canvas directly with brush and paint. It is her uncanny combination and use of color which develops its pictorial potential. Very cultured and well traveled, Carral is concerned with the conflict between the color components of a painting and natural representation and this has lead her to attempt to convey not so much the subject itself, but a transfiguration based on a concordance of lines and harmony of color. This approach perhaps derives from the legacy of the French impressionists which has helped to formulate her oeuvre. The paintings in this exhibition deal with an alchemistic approach to combining colors and therefore the still lifes with flowers are one of the prevailing subjects with the variety of landscapes and captures the color diversity of the fields and valleys at the foot of the Picacho and Sierra Gorda mountain chains of Central México. Most recently, Carral has concentrated more on the landscape, moving ever closer to a more monochromatic palette and thus injecting a certain mystery which was absent from earlier works; where the former flowers and landscapes sung aloud with spontaneity and joy, these new, more mysterious landscapes are romantically quiet and yet, sensuous and exciting, as the pause before a happening, and somehow denote great maturity in the artist's trajectory. ***** La obra de Carral nos revela un mundo pictórico en el que figura y la abstracción se funden a través de la fuerza expresiva del color. La presente selección de su trabajo muestra la versatilidad de una artista que transita del bodegón a lo abstracto y de ahí al paisaje sin nunca dejar de ser ella misma. Mariló ha logrado crear un lenguaje propio, más allá de los estilos, que refleja la intensidad de su espíritu, a un tiempo lúcido y profundo siempre alerta ante el fluir de la naturaleza. Carral no se permite pausas; una vez que ha encontrado una solución deslumbrante sigue explorando. Esta nueva exposición aclara este mecanismo de constante inovación y definte la escencia de su trabajo. Existe a partir de otros mundos, de otras vidas. Es testimonio de una mirada que se desplaza sin cesar, que avanza, regresa, encuetra tierras virgenes, profundiza, se expande, como si estuviera atraída por algo más elevado y más vasto.  Christopher Fallon Design is a designer clothing and accessories boutique located at the historic Fabrica de La Aurora ,Art and Design Center. Christopher Fallon was a Spanish professor with a Masters degree in Spanish from Middlebury College. He then began designing womens clothing. He moved to San Miguel de Allende in 1986 with his wife and eldest son.After two years in San Miguel the family moved to Merida, Yucatan where he opened a sewing factory.He had a show room on 7th Avenue in New York. He sold to over 400 specialty boutiques in the United States and Canada.His haute couture designs graced the covers of Womens Wear Daily.In 1993 the family moved back to San Miguel with their eldest son and an addition to the family, another son.He opened a boutique in their house on Calle Sollano.A new friend at the time asked him to redo a house she and her husband had just bought.This led to almost twenty houses that he renovated or designed from scratch Eleven years ago he convinced the owner of Fabrica La Aurora to convert it into Fabrica La Aurora, Art and Design Center. He conceived the entire idea and designed the interior spaces. Today it is a huge success. The waiting list to be there is very long. ***** Christopher Fallon Design es una boutique de ropa y accesorios ubicada en Fabrica de La Aurora, Centro de Arte y Diseño. Christopher Fallon fue profesor de español con una maestría en español de Middlebury College. Después comenzó a diseñar ropa para mujeres. Se trasladó a San Miguel de Allende en 1986 con su esposa y su hijo mayor. Después de dos años en San Miguel la familia se trasladó a Mérida, Yucatán, donde abrió una fábrica de costura. Concibió toda la idea y diseñó los espacios interiores. Hoy es un gran éxito. La lista de espera para estar allí es muy larga.

 Encaustic is an ancient technique of painting with hot beeswax, melted with resin and color pigment. I paint many layers of the molten paint on a wood support, fusing each layer to the underlying one with a propane torch. This produces a painting that can never fade since the colors are permanently locked in the resin. I often scrape away areas to reveal the underpainting. The fluidity of the encaustic medium is challenging, exhilarating, inspiring and exciting, making a painting that can be looked into as well as looked at. I strive for layered luminosity that is appealingly tactile, encouraging viewers to stoke and caress the surface, discovering the sensual experience of encaustic. ***** Encaustic es una antigua técnica de pintura con cera de abejas caliente, fundido con resina y pigmento de color. Pinto muchas capas de la pintura fundida sobre un soporte de madera, fusionando cada capa con una antorcha de propano. Esto produce una pintura que nunca puede desaparecer ya que los colores están permanentemente bloqueados en la resina. A menudo raspar las áreas para revelar el underpainting.  Artist StatementI am an American visual artist living and working in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I received a BA in painting at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1987. My work can be seen in numerous collections around the world. I have experimented with many formats including tracing paper, glass, and plexiglass over the past few years, and have instead come up with my own unique method of using fabrics and my own inks to create something totally new that depicts in an exciting way my view of the world. ***** Soy un artista visual americano que vive y trabaja en San Miguel de Allende, México. Recibí una licenciatura en pintura en la Rhode Island School of Design en 1987. Mi trabajo se puede ver en numerosas colecciones de todo el mundo. Trabajando en múltiples capas de organdí transparente, y usando tinta y pincel, creo una ilusión de momentos suspendidos; Fantasmas que parecen flotar en el aire. Composiciones que fluctúan entre la figuración y la abstracción; Las extremidades y las caras entran en foco agudo mientras que otras desaparecen en el fondo. Un sentido del misterio se arrastra adentro. Algunas piezas se conectan sólo en la parte superior, dejando el resto de la tela para fluir libremente con las brisas naturales en la habitación, mientras que otras piezas se muestran en las cajas que están abiertas en cada extremo.  One is indeed seduced by the large abstract works of artist, Merry Calderoni. They beg to be touched and speak to the senses, evoking memories of heat-hazed courtyards and crumbling ruins, redolent of sun-baked earth, dust and time. The surfaces that Merry has chosen to paint are walls. As she explains, "Much like the history of Mexico, each wall has many layers and can tell a multitude of stories." Merry uses her dedication to color and texture to conjure the essence of those stories, to convey the endurance and timeless presence inherent in the structures. Her paints may include actual fragments of walls, coarsely ground and mixed with pigment and the earthy colors blend and bleed and run, one on top of another. The layers of the paintings, like the walls themselves, may incorporate torn posters, tired bits of metal, odd remnants and tracings of the past. ***** Uno es en efecto seducido por las grandes obras abstractas del artista, Merry Calderoni. Piden que se toquen y hablen a los sentidos, evocando recuerdos de patios caldeados por el calor y ruinas desmoronadas, redolentes de tierra al sol, polvo y tiempo. Las superficies que Merry ha elegido pintar son paredes. Como explica, "Al igual que la historia de México, cada pared tiene muchas capas y puede contar una multitud de historias".  Since 1990, the Noel Cayetano art gallery has been known for promoting works of art by Oaxacan artists.  Rachel found her love of the perfect thing for the right place while surrounded by the classic stone buildings and churches of San Miguel de Allende, where she spent her childhood. Rachel’s father, an aspiring novelist, and her mother, a captured bride from the stage of the Met, arrived in San Miguel for their honeymoon in 1960 and never left. Colonial architecture, battered and blessed by passing centuries, taught Rachel about the value and soul that a simple workman’s table could give even a Manhattan apartment. ***** Rachel encontró su amor de lo perfecto para el lugar correcto, mientras que rodeado por los edificios de piedra clásicos e iglesias de San Miguel de Allende, donde pasó su infancia. El padre de Rachel, aspirante a novelista, y su madre, una novia capturada de la etapa del Met, llegaron a San Miguel para su luna de miel en 1960 y nunca dejaron.  Terry Tomlinson comes from an academic background of painting and sculpture in clay and bronze. She studied at the Art Student's League, the Woodstock School of Art, Women's Studio Workshop all in New York, before discovering hand papermaking in 2002. Her art has been shown extensively for more than 25 years and it is in numerous collections in the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe. In her work in handmade paper, Terry explores the medium in exciting new ways using primarily Japanese paper-making techniques. The art she makes is abstracted in imagery and minimal in content and color. She enjoys the full experience of gathering and processing indigenous fibers and transforming them into art. Influenced by the beauty of nature, her work captures it's serenity and calmness with simplicity and eloquence. The Gallery Hidden behind a colonial facade in the historic center of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico is a minimal, contemporary light filled space. The gallery which Terry designed mirrors the minimalist beauty and tranquility of her art. It is open to the public every Wednesday from 11-3 and by appointment throughout the winter season ***** Terry Tomlinson proviene de un fondo académico de pintura y escultura en arcilla y bronce.
